Ever heard of tilt-shift photography?, If do not like this: tilt-shift photography is a medium format camera that uses that can bend manifold perspective or perspective control lenses. Since this type of camera and lens is fairly expensive and rare in the market, we will mimic a tilt-shift effect using Photoshop. Typically, the tilt-shift effect to make us look like a miniature picture of a location, using a sharp narrow space. Curious? get on with it.
1. Selecting Photos.
To mimic the effect of tilt-shift nice, try to find a photo taken from the heights, for this article I use the photo.
2. Open Photo In Photoshop, the Quick Mask Mode Enable.
Open your photo in Photoshop (I use Photoshop CS5 on the Mac, but you can use any version of photoshop version of either Windows / Mac). To activate the Quick Mask Mode, press the Q key on the keyboard, or enabled via the toolbar next to the left (see picture)
3. Select the Gradient Tool.
To select the gradient tool, click the button G, or enabled via the mouse (see picture), make sure you have activated the gradient and not the paint bucket (check the tool bar at the side). Then the gradient option, select the Reflected Gradient option (the fourth icon above - see picture)
4. Create a Vertical Line.
To determine which areas will be sharply constrained, draw a line by dragging your mouse from the bottom up, in this picture I drew short lines as shown below. The starting point is the center of focus as the end point of the line you will be the initial boundaries blur:
5. View Area Masking.
Once you release the mouse, you will see a red area, this area will be the area that are not sharply while the red area will look blurry future, make sure the area is as you want, if not you can repeat step number 4.
6. Back to Normal Mode.
To exit dar masking mode and return to normal mode, press the Q key again. Once you push the button Q, it would seem there is a dotted line in the picture (marching ants).
